Best of 2007... in progress

I'll be making another "best of space 2007" list like I did last year. I just won't do it right now. I'll do it once I get back from a couple days skiing.

See Ess

Peter Reid brings us yet another dose of Classic Space themed goodness with the LL124. There are so many cool things about this MOC, such as the x-pod cockpit, and the heavily greebled underbelly. See for yourself!

Readers meet the Explora Walker

Hello folks, firstly sorry for the lack of contribution I make to the YSA Blog. But thanks to Lukas, me I shall be posting alot more. I blame school. Well and me being lazy but heh.

In my opinion Mark J Stafford has not been posting much lately and I tend to miss the models he does. But this little gem managed to catch my eye on brickshelf.

In this walker Mark makes a bold moves and mixes color with steampunk. Producing a marvelous MOC.

Enough of my rambling Check it out for yourself!

Spook Did It.

It's more likely that the past three weeks have been finals time than anything else, but it's just so much fun to blame Spook....

I didn't think it was possible for izzo to get any better.
But, of course, he did. I love the missile pods on the back.

12.19.2007

I should whip out the punish-nater on you little blogerees!

I apologize for the lack of post. Blame it on not me.

I would like to present to you viewer-types this "Greeble-Machine" built by "Mister 007," or Nathan. It's got some great small part use, like cart wheels on the flag pole, and harpoons for legs. And of course, check out those sweet greebs! Head over to flickr and give him a high-five.
And, don't miss these flamin-hot TF2 Pyro T-shirts in the Valve Store. Speaking of Valve, I just picked up, played, and beat Portal. You should too.

Sinterklaas!

Fire when ready!

I'm not normally into Star Trek stuff, but this lego-fied version of a Romulan Warbird is the best I've ever seen. Kudos to brickshelf user AdmiralStupid who built it. :)

Alternate title: I wish I had this many green pieces

(I assume it's new since it was in recent folders on BS >.>)

11.24.2007

.mmm.

Brickshelf user kwi-chang built an awesome mech. It's like... duuuuuude. Wooooaaaahhh. Maaaaannn... If you stare at it long enough you'll see what I mean..

11.18.2007

Blue Skies

First one to rag on Hanson gets removed from the blogger list.
First, is this really cool tank thing, followed by a nice little farm built by TBB's own Josh

And of course, nnenn still builds
Well, that's it for now playas. I got work to do.

Musical Influence: Hanson.

11.12.2007

Catch-up post

I seem to blog nearly everything Izzo builds. That's because Izzo builds cool things. So here's "35."

Chuck C. has built a couple of cool things. ( Ferrari mecha | Patrol boat )

I'm sure I'm missing something, but here's a little something to keep you going while the blog slows down a little.

11.06.2007

Eddie Rickenbacker, standing by.

Mike Psiaki's WWII X-wing is awesome. 'nuff said.

11.03.2007

Audi R8

There are a lot of things I am a sucker from, even though they aren't space. One of them...is cars. Lego cars. And this one wins.

See everything here. I think that there are quite a few things we spacers can learn from things like cars. The shaping on this is amazing (it would have been impossible 5 or 6 years ago because of all the new slopes we're seeing).

On the spacey side...

There is a nice little "Ugly Starfighter" contest over at FBTBforums.net. This entry from member Stefan has some potential:

I think it fits the ugly definition quite nicely, and resembles the official B-Wing very well.

And of course, Olog's Natai, another entry, is an awesome fusion of a Naboo Starfighter and a TIE-D, although I can't say it's ugly at all:

When One Forgets To Check Brickshelf: A cautionary tale.

There once was a little boy,
who blogged about a building toy.
he forgot to check Brickshelf,
and therefore deprived himself
Of Izzo's latest Mech.
So he said what the heck,
I'll blog it.

So that's what I'm doing. As my little on-the-spot poem said, Izzo has a new mech. Two, actually. Excellent inspiration for my current MOC project.

"28" is really cool, I love the gun. Also the purple. The feet are pretty nice too.

"29" is my favorite of the two. Wow. the bike... just wow.

As usual, pics = links.

Ariana’s Revenge from Peter Morris

After abstaining from naming this post something like "omg I r bild," I had to find something to name it. So that's my excuse for the lame title. At least it's descriptive.

Ariana's Revenge looks a lot like a Naboo Starfighter, but in a very good way, a chunky way. Rawr. Ah yes, the mandatory linkage.

Pugiunculus Support Mech by Arpy

What a lucky frog, Ensign Tupperware is, to be put behind the controls of such a beautious machine. Ahh, I can hear the Hyoomins screaming in fear just looking at it.

HAY LOOK KNICK I BLOGGED IT LAL

Fellow blogmate nick got back from school for a weekend and whipped up this beauty. It's great, awesome landing gear, sculpting, and those rotors are sweet.

Jain's Guide

Jay-dubya (aka Jason Whittenburg) has a site that links in with Classic-Space, called "Jain's Intelligence Daily."

It's got cool features like Brickverse today, which is a listing of all the newest posts in all the lego blogs out there (in fact this post will probably appear there in a matter of minutes)

And then the CSF MOC report, showing all the newest creations in a colorful, easy way.

Keep up the sweet site! :O

10.12.2007

nnenn does it again. Quality work with a capital "awesome"
I especially love the checkboard pattern on the nose. But then, you knew that right?

10.09.2007

guuurgh... Moko...

I know he's a blogging favorite on so many blogs, but the stuff he makes is just so great I can't pass it up!

Anyway, he seems to be having fun with his 'basic frame'- a compact mecha armature. The newest versions:

An earlier version was posted on the blog a little while back by mike, but somehow he passed on highlighting this awesome missile box...

10.08.2007

Pepik's "Future Space Etc"

Brickshelf user Pepik brings us a nice future oil well fire. But we all know it's Post-Apoc. Actually, one of the reasons I like this so much is because it feels like late-90's Lego. Both of the vehicles seem to have almost a Rock Raiders kind of feel to them. Anyway, just enjoy!

>.>
<.<
In other news...I am about to blog something that is not Lego. It is in fact cheese. Yes. I am blogging a MOC that is made out of cheese. There's a first for everything. Yes, I'm serious. Every once in a while there are people on Flickr that add me as their contacts and don't build with Lego. They're either predators (just kidding) or other hobbyists. Curis seems to be into a mixture of things, but I wouldn't have thought he'd be into cheese. Sure enough, though, he is. Here we have Curis going to the local store to buy materials:

Just like most of us would use Bricklink, Curis buys his cheese in large quantities at the best price. Next he begins cutting the cheese:

Not figuratively, but literally. Eventually he shapes it out into what he invisions.

He'll add a few extras, like the red highlights, and the flaming fireballs (which are made from a different type of cheese). And now it's done!

Okay, I'm hungry for a cheesestick. Go ahead and view the rest in his photostream (link at the top of the photos).

SAPCE! LAL! BUCE!

Spooky Tim (who made the header) has now added a subtle starry background to the blog. Yay!

Brickshelf Bio: Jarek

Okay, so it isn't exactly a bio, but more of a portfolio-view of a brickshelf builder; Jerrec (I think his real name is Jarek, but whatever.) He's been around for quite a while, the first real appearance I can remember is his post on CSF of the then work-in-progress Swiss Medical Frigate. Since then, he's established himself as a great microspace builder, but has covered an array of other themes as well. Most prominent is his swiss fleet of ships, most microscale, and currently has a few minifig-scale MOCs. Here's the list of swiss:

Whew. Anyway, his swiss work is excellent, and lots of fun to browse through. Jarek has also developed a certain style of steampunk for himself, using more tan and more smooth shapes than 'traditional' steampunk. Be sure to check out the flyer if nothing else. Again, he builds in a lot of other themes as well, so flip through his brickshelf to see it all. I chose a couple of prominent works to wrap up this link dump:

Pathfinder

Holy smokes!

Tachi/Fuchikoma by Obscurance

Brickshelf member obscurance has a really nice lime green Fuchikoma from Ghost in the Shell. Also, some good-looking Tachikomas in a variety of colors. Check out the rest of his/her brickshelf gallery too... a lot of nice stuff.

Blue Spaceship

It was worth waiting! Another great work made by Bram Lambrecht. On his Flickr account you can see more neat Lego creations.

See y'all guys; Tony.Barth

PS: For those who want to see more, check this out.

Mecha

Don't know who built this mech. But man, it sucks.

Make way for captain CAKE! :o

Captain Cake! :D

9.28.2007

Microscale space!

Here we have a microscale spaceship by Adrian Florea. He has a very nice building style also he's a very good industrial designer. Check out his Flickr account for more awesome Lego stuff(and some cool industrial design drawings).

9.27.2007

Hallow thare...

You might know me. Possibly.

Anyway, Matt H built a cool train. Yeah, most trains aren't cool.

jehkay

(jumping in on the posting bandwagon today :D)

If you are unaware of the builder jehkay, you should really go check out his MOCs on flickr. While his building style may seem a bit busy and studdy at times, it's very unique and his mecha are always awesome, not to mention loaded with personality. I also am envious of his amazingly clear and well-lit photography. So yeah, go look. Right now. I demand it.

To the right is his latest mech.

Homeworld-ey spaceship

Hey all! It's my first post here, I think you all know me kee kee

So Lukas showed me this nice spacefighter from dasnewton; I've never seen his Flickr account before and I have to say: it's worth checking out! He has some nice Lego space stuff, which strongly reminds me of Homeworld 2. Hafe fun!

See y'all guys.

Next-gen

I would like to announce the true up-ness of another communal building website including me and a couple other members of this blog; Next-Gen

Yup :D

Andrew's Bloody Fang

I would just like to reinforce to y'all how pwnagingly (it's a word, shush you) awesome Andrew's bloody fang battlesuit is, especially with new weapon variations. Just check out the chest sculpting, barnicle pieces, and those sweeet shoulder areas.

9.21.2007

A new type of Space Module system? Perhaps

Hello all, first post yaka yaka....

Anyway Brickshelf user LMO-JAPAN, shows us that not all space cargo is boring.

Well mabye from the outside all they are, but heck the inside is a real surprise!
I won't spoil it for you check them out for yourself!

New CSF banner!

Jared Morris spurred Mark Sandlin and Kyle to hurry up and get that old banner finished, and the result is awesome! Go to Classic-space and refresh until you've seen them all!

9.16.2007

On Microspace by Brenden Wilson

Brenden (or "Red Baron") has written an excellent article on the 'history' of microspace, and it's recent boom.

Get to reading. NOW!

Barnicle lulz

Okay, I know it's probably arpy's job to blog the bionicle, but I feel the urge right now. Brickshelf "MuffinToa", who's gallery I've actually looked at quite often (it's true, I'm a sucker for nice bionicle stuff) has always reminded me of things I did with the older bionicles, the first and second toa generations. I would mix and match parts, add armor, attach those little cannons onto their arms... ahh good times :]

Anyway, he made something that looks like a nicer version of what I would do. Check it out! :o

9.15.2007

I can has bild?

Yes, I can! I just built a fighter. Yay.

9.13.2007

Screeeeeow!

Japanese (I... think) builder tkh has a very nice transforming StarScream. it has his normal *simple* parts with studs style, but it has a really nice transformation. Check it out.

Vintage Lorry

A certain "J.M." has built an extremely impressive lorry (British term for a pickup truck, if I'm not mistaken.)

Things to note:
True to its british-ness, the driver is on the left.
There is a hidden steering system.
The fenders.

New Crap!

I'm turning this into a Young Spacers Association Blog. Any of the members can post if they want to, just email me or something.

Thank yeh spook for making the awesome banner. You win once again.

Marcus Fenix by The Legohaulic

The Legohaulic never ceases to amaze. Exhibit A (And B, C, D...): His new Marcus Fenix. (from the Xbox 360 game Gears of War)

Gotta love chainsaw bayonets. The hand technique he uses for said bayonet isn't exactly new, but it's still as effective as ever. And that's not the only cool technique; the entire figure is full of them. The (I think) basketball arms as his chin, the tires throughout, the capes... And even the stand is way cool.

(Via The Brothers Brick)

Jacob
Occasional driving force of the blog, self-proclaimed Lukas fanboy, and aspiring engineer, Jacob spends too much time building LEGO, not enough time practicing piano, and not nearly enough time doing school. He also enjoys long sentences. In the instance of blogging, he believes in quantity over quality, wherever quantity can be maintained.
Mike
One of the cofounders of YSAB, and the founder of YSA, Observing Mike actually being productive is a rare occasion. Mike enjoys making outlandish claims in relation to actually building, pretending he's actually sorting his collection, and making excuses for why he hasn't photographed his MOCs. In his free time he enjoys learning CSS from Spook, photography and poking badgers with spoons.
Dean
Occasional builder, occasional blogger, and full-time procrastinator. That's really the only way to describe Dean. He rarely gets anything done, but is a very active lurker. He's probably seen and liked your MOC, but just forgot he had a blog.
Erik
Erik is still a teenager.
Lukas
Lukas is tall, blond, mildly OCD, and doesn't build nearly enough as he would like to, thanks to school. He has a webpage.
Spook (Tim)
The resident codemonkey and graphics person. If something isn't working correctly, it's probably his fault. Fitting to his name, he doesn't post often, but someone has to do this stuff too, right? Spook does build with laygoes, and has his own blog as well.
